Why Choose Guided Mountain Bike Adventures

Mountain biking can be intimidating without the right knowledge and support. Guided tours offer several advantages that make your ride safer, more enjoyable, and more rewarding.

  • Expert Guidance

We ride these trails every week, and we know them inside out. We will tailor the ride to your skill level, show you proper techniques, and help you avoid common mistakes. This guidance builds confidence and improves your skills faster than riding alone..

  • Trail Choice

The main trails within the preserve are marked, albeit at distant intervals. And most intersections are not marked. (See photo below - 5 choices, 1 trail marker)There is also a wide array of renegade/unofficial but well used trails that look doable, but frequently lead into terrain best avoided. As well as these trails create confusion for re-locating your origin trail head. There are also closed trails where we are letting the desert heal from off-trail use.

  • Group Camaraderie

Riding with a group creates a sense of community. You can share tips, celebrate achievements, and make new friends who share your passion for mountain biking. The social aspect adds an extra layer of enjoyment to your adventure.

What to Expect on a Guided Mountain Bike Tour

Understanding what happens on a guided mountain bike adventure helps you prepare and get the most from your experience.

Pre-Ride Preparation

Before the ride, your guide will usually provide a briefing covering:

  • Trail overview and difficulty level choices

  • Trail communications and etiquette

  • Expected weather conditions

  • Bike setup and gear checks - at the bike shop. And then there is a spacious parking lot directly behind the bike shop where you can practice gear changing and braking before we head into the preserve.

This session ensures everyone is ready and informed.

The Ride Itself

Guided rides vary in length and terrain but typically include:

  • Warm-up/flat sections to get comfortable on your bike

  • Technical segments to practice skills like cornering, braking, and climbing

  • Scenic stops for rest, photos, and hydration

  • Opportunities to learn about local flora, fauna, and local history

Guide adjusts the pace and route based on the group’s ability and interests.

Post-Ride Activities

After the ride, we can offer:

  • Bike maintenance tips

  • Recommendations for local food or attractions

  • Time to socialize and share stories

These extras enhance your overall experience and help you recover.

How to Prepare for Your Mountain Bike Adventure

Preparation makes your ride smoother and more enjoyable. Here are some practical tips:

Clothing/Gear Recommendations

  • Apply sunscreen before you leave the bike shop or even before you arrive at the bike shop, so you can wash your hands before hitting the trail.

  • Bike gloves protect from sun exposure as well as plants that may have encroached into the trail. If you would like, they can be purchased at the shop before we hit the trail

  • Padded shorts

  • Knee high compression socks conserve your energy and also protect from the overly friendly plants along the trail.

  • Hydration packs are ideal if you have one. (Such as Camelback brand) Otherwise, water bottles are included in bike rental.

  • Sunglasses also shield from dust and branches.

Pack Smart

Bring essentials such as:

  • Snacks or energy bars

  • Sunscreen for re-application

  • Identification and emergency contact information

Know Your Limits

Be honest about your fitness and skill level. Communicate with your guide if you feel tired or uncomfortable. The goal is to enjoy the ride fully.
