The Desert is A-Buzz

There are 3 sets of abundant native trees currently blooming: Ironwood, Mesquite and Palo Verde. The bees working these trees create a very noticeable hum. In my back yard I like to stand under the umbrella coolness of our mesquite tree and just take in the soothing hum of the bees. Riding in the preserve, there are so many blooming trees and bees that I can hear the amazingly loud hum even above the crunch of my tires on the bike trail. While many wildflowers have already bloomed and seeded, various cactus are also now blooming….cholla, hedgehog, prickly pear and our iconic saguaros. The white winged doves have been back in residence for more than a month, in anticipation of saguaro flowers and seeds - their preferred food to feed their babies.
It’s just so fun to be riding in the desert right now.
